THERAPIES
Our group of experienced consultant neurologists focus on the delivery of evidence based neurologic therapies in a holistic framework that takes into account individual preferences and needs.
Treatments prescribed at Integrated Neurology include Medications, Medical Injectables, Infusional Therapies and Deep Brain Stimulation. Your Neurologist can also provide support and recommendations regarding government supported programs to assist in your overall health management.
Integrated Neurology Specialists work closely with General Practitioners, Psychiatrists, other medical specialists and allied health practitioners to optimise outcomes for their patients.
Medications
Medications play an important role in neurologic and rehabilitation medicine. They can improve symptom control and, in some conditions, significantly modify disease progression.
Medications need to be employed with care to maximise therapeutic benefit and minimise side effects. Integrated Neurology Specialists are experts in medication management with subspecialty expertise.
Medical Injectables
Injectable therapies are used in a variety of neurologic conditions characterised by excessive or involuntary movement including dystonia and spasticity. Treatment is delivered by injection into specific muscles dependent on the clinical indication. Injectable medications are available on the Pharmaceutical Benefits scheme for many, but not all, conditions amenable to treatment.
Dr Gu, Dr Lubomski, Dr Palavra, and Dr Dinh are medical injectors for Neurologic indications.
Infusional therapies
Infusional therapies are treatments which involve a continuous infusion of medication to improve symptom control in Parkinson’s disease. Infusions can be delivered under the skin (subcutaneously) or via a permanently implanted tube in the stomach (enterally).
Deep Brain Stimulation
Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) is a therapeutic modality utilised in the management of Parkinson’s Disease, Dystonia, Tremor and Tourette’s Syndrome. DBS is principally recommended when tablet and injectable treatments are poorly tolerated or providing insufficient benefit.
DBS involves the delivery of continuous electric impulses by an implanted brain stimulation device.
Implantation is undertaken by a dedicated Neurosurgical team including a Neurosurgeon, Neurologist and Anaesthetist. DBS surgery involves the precise placement of electrodes in specific deep brain structures. These electrodes are then routed under the skin to an implanted device in the chest or abdominal wall.
DBS is programmed by radiofrequency or Bluetooth, using a computer tablet or PC customised for stimulator programming.
All Neurologists at Integrated Neurology have undertaken additional sub-specialty training in Deep Brain Stimulation management and are active DBS programmers.
Dr Silberstein is one of the most experienced operative DBS Neurologists in Australia having performed operative planning, intra-operative neurophysiology and inpatient DBS management for over 700 patients.

A care plan is a structured plan created by your GP to help manage a chronic medical condition. It’s designed for patients who need a multidisciplinary approach—meaning care from a GP plus at least two other health or care providers. With a care plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate on certain allied health services, making treatments more affordable.
